Premiere of Dishta Gina Bradford-style!
30th October 2021
Artworks Creative Communities have been quietly working with young unaccompanied asylum seekers using different forms of creativity to help build confidence and reduce isolation, over the last 3 years. Now, the whole world is going to know about it! The spark was lit when 2 of the young people introduced a mega popular Ethiopian hit song and video.
Dishta Gina Bradford Style is to the original soundtrack by Tariku Gankisi and shows a modern Bradford, with some very funky dancing by our citizens young and old.
Deb Collett of Artworks explains:
“I just dashed round Bradford for 2 weeks during Black History Month trying to involve groups. The Bradford spirit was very willing, and my smartphone got as much footage as possible. Marcus Lee of ReelStreet filmed the dance sequences with the young refugees and put the whole thing together. It is a wonderfully joyous expression of Bradford solidarity”
The Bradford version of the mega popular hit music video from Ethiopia’s Tariku Gankisi.
Over a dozen community groups were involved from all Bradford. Thank you to all that contributed their time, energy and killer dance moves.
